ISLAMABAD, August 19, 2020: Intellectual Property Organization (IPO-Pakistan) and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of Geographical Indications (GI) for boosting agricultural products.
The understanding came during a seminar on Protection and Commercialization of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), jointly organized by IPO-Pakistan and PARC here on Wednesday. The Seminar was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan, Chairman PARC and Mr. Meesaq Arif, Executive Director, IPO-Pakistan.
Addressing the seminar, Chairman PARC highlighted the importance of agriculture for boosting our economy and said that their scientists were working to develop new species of agricultural products. He expressed the confidence that cooperation between the two departments would be beneficial for the development of agri-sector in the country.
Mr. Meesaq Arif while highlighting the role of IPO-Pakistan in safeguarding innovations said that IPO-Pakistan encourages every such step which protects and promotes novelty. He termed agriculture sector the backbone of our economy and urged scientists to patent their inventions and innovations while registering them with IPO-Pakistan.
Both organizations expressed the resolve to hold awareness and training sessions to promote Pakistani agricultural products.
Later, Mr. Muhammad Ismail, Director (GI) briefed participants about the scope of GI in agriculture sector. Mr. Saifullah, Deputy Director presented Copyright, Mr. Mujtaba Kamal, Deputy Controller of Patens gave presentation on Patent and Industrial Design and Ms. Umme Salma, Deputy Director highlighted Trademark registration process.
